About Kateri Kenney, LPCC
Kateri is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and national certified counselor (NCC). She received her undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology from Ohio Northern University and master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Capella University. Kateri specializes in working with children and adolescents 3-18 years old around the issues of anxiety, depression, trauma and behavioral management. She also sees young adults with a focus on managing symptoms of anxiety and depresion, working through past trauma and adjusting to life transitions.
Kateri has many years of experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings. Kateri has worked with young children through many years of preschool education. She has also been a case manager with children services and a residential group therapist where she first developed a passion for treating trauma. Additionally, she utilizes her role as a developmental disabilities coach to apply her understanding of disabilities to mental health treatment as needed.
She uses psychoeducation and structured interventions including Trauma Focused CBT and DBT to treat trauma-related disorders. Kateri is certified as a clinical trauma professional (CCTP) and applies treatment for trauma as appropriate. In working with children, she uses play therapy techniques to help process trauma and emotions, build self-esteem, and develop skills of handling conflict and setting boundaries. Kateri uses a variety of methods to reach these goals including structured games, non-directive play, bibliotherapy techniques and talk therapy. Kateri’s goal is to first build a trusting relationship with her clients.
In her free time, Kateri likes to spend time with her dog exploring the parks and the outdoors. Kateri is also involved in social and professional clubs and her church and loves to make new connections!
